If you are interested in serving as an officer of Texas A&M’s African Students Association, applications will open April 5th at noon and will close a week later on April 12th at 11:59PM. As a board, we have decided to combine a couple of positions, so some that are active this year will no longer be available next year, however, more information will be released as the date approaches . In addition, in order to apply to be President, Vice President, Treasurer or Secretary, you must have previously been on the board. With that being said, if you have any questions, comments or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact any of the officers about their specific positions or about being on the board in general. We would love to help you and wish you the best of luck!
For our next general body meeting, we will be joining NAACP to talk about the divide between Africans and African Americans and discuss ways to bridge the great divide between the two communities. Though it can be sensitive topic, we want to hear all sides and angles. So bring your lab partners, lunch buddies , roommates or even that cute boy who sits in front of you because all are welcomed and are highly encouraged to come! See you there!
If you want to meet and interact with new people or learn more about our organization, come check us out! Though we encourage you guys to have fun during spring break and take time for yourselves, we can’t stress enough how important it is to be safe and smart. Pay attention to your surroundings and try not to get into situations that could change your lives for the worse. Also, though you are given a week off of school, make sure that you are staying on top of your schoolwork, especially if you have any tests or assignments that are due the week that we get back.
As many of you know, one of our members, Steven Anderson was recently diagnosed with Renal Medullary Carcinoma, one of the rarest forms of cancer. As a way to show our love and support, TAMU ASA is partnering with Tempo Live Events Inc. to host a barber shop event. All cuts are $20 and all proceeds will go towards funding Steven’s cancer treatments and another portion of the funds will be donated to St. Jude’s Hospital.

For year’s auction, we are raising money for Yewande’s Village, which is a non-profit aimed to helping displaced women and children and victims of Boko Haram terrorism in West Africa. With that being said, 100% of the entry fees ($2) along with the auction bids will go towards that organization. So far we have dropped the silhouettes of some of our suspects and will be releasing more clues as we get closer and closer to the date. Until then, get your outfits ready, save your refund checks, schedule your haircuts and secure your wigs because #ASAClue is going to be the event of the year! Stay tuned!

Last semester may or may not have gone the way that you wanted it to but that’s okay! This is a fresh start and a new opportunity to kill it! This semester, make sure that you are taking advantage of all of the resources on campus like the Help Desk, your professor’s office hours, the University Writing Center, and much more! Also though your grades may seem like the main priority, you are more important. With that being said make sure that you are taking care of yourself and are getting enough sleep, eating well and exercising to be the best form of you that you can be! Taking all of this into account, we hope that everyone’s semester is filled with lots of joy and prosperity! Good luck!!
